Trailer for the ORPHAN Prequel Horror Film ORPHAN: FIRST KILL
Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming Orphan prequel horror thriller Orphan: First Kill. Isabelle Fuhrman is reprising her as role as Esther, which is strange as she is a 24-year-old woman playing a younger 9-year-old version of the character. She originally played this character in the original movie when she was 12.
It was explained that in order to pull that off in Orphan: First Kill, the filmmakers utilized “a combination of forced perspective shooting and a world-class makeup team.” I’m still not sure if it really works that well as Ester definitely looks older than she did in the first movie, and she should look younger. But, at the same time, she doesn’t look like she’s 24. They did the best they could!
"Esther’s terrifying saga continues in this thrilling prequel to the original and shocking horror hit, Orphan. After orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Esther travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. Yet, an unexpected twist arises that pits her against a mother who will protect her family from the murderous ‘child’ at any cost.”
It’s pretty much the same story as the original film. The film was directed by William Brent Bell (The Boy, Separation) from a script written by David Coggeshall (Scream TV Series) wrote the script. It also stars Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland.
When previously talking about the whole de-aging process Fuhrman said, "I love the challenge of being able to play a kid because that's never historically been done in cinema -- I was like looking all this up, because I love looking up old movie history and things like that, and I was like, 'Oh, an adult has never reprised the role that they played as a child,. Will Smith, for example, recently did that movie [Gemini Man] where they de-age somebody, but to reprise a role that you literally did as a kid as an adult has never been done before. It's kind of impossible. And we did it. We didn't use special effects, we didn't use any crazy makeup tricks. And I think that's what makes the movie work, is because you really can't figure out how I look like a [nine-year-old], but I do. And it's really creepy.”
Orphan: First Kill is coming to select theaters, Digital, and Paramount+ on August 19.
