Trailer for THE SENIOR Sees Michael Chiklis Attempt to Play College Football

Angel Studios just dropped the official trailer for The Senior, a sports drama based on a wild true story about Mike Flynt, played by Michael Chiklis, who at 59 years old decides to return to college football to face his past.

Nearly four decades earlier, Flynt was kicked off his team after an altercation. Now, carrying that regret, he goes back to school to earn his degree and fight for a second chance on the field.

The movie also stars Mary Stuart Masterson, Brandon Flynn, James Badge Dale, and Rob Corddry, with direction by Rod Lurie, the filmmaker behind The Contender and The Outpost.

“At 59, Mike Flynt (starring Michael Chiklis) might be too old to play college football — but not too old to settle unfinished business. Nearly forty years after leaving his team, he returns to his alma mater to face the moment that changed everything.

“Bruised, doubted, and nearly broken, he fights for one last game—not for glory, but for all the teammates he lost, the family he fractured, and the ending he still believes is possible.”

This heartfelt redemption story originally premiered at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival in 2023, but never saw release until now. Based on the trailer, The Senior looks like an inspiring, yet slightly unbelievable, sports drama about determination and second chances.

Angel Studios will release the film in theaters on September 19, 2025.
