Trailer for the Shark Horror Film THE BAY Drops Viewers Into a Tiger Shark Sanctuary

Shark movies are always looking for a new way to make audiences think twice about getting in the water, and The Bay looks ready to do exactly that.

Brainstorm Media has released the full trailer for the upcoming indie shark horror film, and it leans hard into a simple but effective premise: when you're stranded in shark-infested waters, you're no longer at the top of the food chain.

The movie even comes equipped with a fantastic tagline: “When you enter the water, you enter the food chain.” That's the kind of shark movie marketing that immediately lets you know what you're in for.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Thailand, the story follows best friends Emma and Lani, who are attending a destination wedding. What should be a fun getaway quickly turns into a nightmare when they join a shark-feeding excursion.

Things go south fast after an aggressive tiger shark attacks and cripples their boat, leaving them stranded in the middle of a breeding ground filled with predator.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “At a destination wedding in Thailand, best friends Emma & Lani go out on a shark-feeding tour that turns deadly when an aggressive tiger shark cripples their boat.

“Stranded in a remote bay's breeding grounds, panic spirals into violence as survival instincts take over. With rescue out of reach and time running out, safety is just in sight—but the bay between them belongs to the sharks.”

The danger isn't limited to the sharks circling below. As fear takes hold and hope of rescue fades, the people trapped in the water begin turning on each other. The trailer hints that human desperation may be just as dangerous as the predators hunting them.

The film comes from filmmaker Phil Volken, whose previous directing credits include Garbage, Extortion, and Dead Sea. Speaking about the project, Volken explained:

"I've made several films set on the open sea, and The Bay is the culmination of my experiences to date – with my crack team of regular collaborators, the movie is finely and expertly honed to maximize the combined fears of the ocean, the unknown, the sharks, and ultimately, just how cold-blooded nature can be – specifically human nature."

Volken also shared his excitement about what the team accomplished with the production, saying: "I'm delighted with the scale and performances we've delivered onscreen"

The cast includes Francesca Eastwood, Alexander Wraith, Dani Oliveros, Ta'imua, and Calan Scherer, all of whom appear to spend a significant amount of the movie fighting for their lives in open water.

Brainstorm Media will release The Bay in select U.S. theaters and on VOD beginning July 17, 2026. If you're looking for a shark horror movie to crank up your anxiety levels this summer, this one may be worth diving into.
