Trailer For THE SOUVENIR PART II with Tilda Swinton and Her Daughter Honor Swinton Byrne
The story for director Joanna Hogg's award-winning film The Souvenir continues with a sequel, The Souvenir Part II. The film is described as a “shimmering story of first love and a young woman’s formative years.” It’s “a portrait of the artist that transcends the halting particulars of everyday life — a singular, alchemic mix of memoir and fantasy.”
The story is set in “the aftermath of her tumultuous relationship with a charismatic and manipulative older man, Julie begins to untangle her fraught love for him in making her graduation film, sorting fact from his elaborately constructed fiction.”
Like the first movie, this sequel is a semi-autobiographical retelling of the writer and director’s own life experiences. The first movie received a lot of praise from critics and audiences. I know it’s not really a geeky genre film, but it is a good and well-made film none-the-less that cinephiles will appreciate.
Honor Swinton Byrne reprises her role as Julie, opposite her mother Tilda Swinton who plays Julie's mother Rosalind in the film. The Souvenir Part II stars opens in select theaters on October 29th.
