Trailer For THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: THE SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS Sets Sail for a Wild Pirate Adventure

Get ready to dive back into Bikini Bottom because The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants just dropped its official trailer, and it looks like the most ridiculous, hilarious, and over-the-top SpongeBob adventure yet.

Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies are back at it, sending our favorite yellow sponge and his friends on a wild, pirate-packed quest hitting theaters this December.

This time around, SpongeBob is determined to prove he’s more than just a fry cook. Desperate to show Mr. Krabs that he’s got what it takes to be a “big guy,” he sets out to track down The Flying Dutchman, a legendary ghost pirate who haunts the deepest parts of the ocean.

Of course, things spiral into pure nautical nonsense from there as SpongeBob’s friends including Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and the rest of the crew set out to rescue him after he disappears beneath the waves.

The trailer teases plenty of underwater chaos, ghostly hijinks, and pirate shenanigans, all wrapped in that signature SpongeBob brand of humor. It’s bright, fast-paced, and loaded with new sea-sailing antics.

The film reunites the beloved voice cast including Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, and newcomers George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, Regina Hall, and Mark Hamill as The Flying Dutchman.

Here’s the synopsis: “SpongeBob & his Bikini Bottom friends set sail in their biggest, all-new, can’t miss cinematic event ever... The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. Desperate to be a big guy, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following The Flying Dutchman – a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate – on a seafaring comedy-adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no Sponge has gone before.”

The movie is directed by Derek Drymon, who previously helmed Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania. The screenplay comes from Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman. It’s based on the iconic series created by Stephen Hillenburg.

With pirate ghosts, deep-sea adventures, and the same offbeat humor that’s made SpongeBob SquarePants a global phenomenon, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants looks like a must-see event for fans of all ages.

Grab your spatulas, polish your treasure chests, and get ready to set sail when The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants opens in theaters nationwide on December 19, 2025.
