Trailer for the Stanley Kubrick Documentary KUBRICK BY KUBRICK

Legendary director Stanley Kubrick was an incredibly talented filmmaker who gave us films such as Spartacus, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut.

His films have inspired other filmmakers and have been studied by film students and movie buffs. The guy was like a mad scientist and perfectionist of filmmaking and storytelling. For those of you who are fans of the director’s work, there’s a new documentary coming that you’ll want to watch.

The documentary is titled Kubrick By Kubrick, and it features archival interviews with some of the filmmaker’s closest collaborators. We will also get to hear Kubrick himself talk about filmmaking and his philosophies and these audio recordings come from conversations Kubrick had with the French critic Michel Ciment across a decades-long relationship. It also features never-before-heard recordings as well as material from the Kubrick family.

The doc was supposed to make its big premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, but it was postponed. The film will now be released online later this month, and today the first trailer has now arrived. The movie was directed by Grégory Monro, and this is the synopsis:

Stanley Kubrick’s mark on the legacy of cinema can never be measured. He was a giant in his field, his great works resembling pristine pieces of art, studied by students and masters alike, all searching for answers their maker was notoriously reticent to give. While he’s among the most scrutinized filmmakers that ever lived, the chance to hear Kubrick’s own words was a rarity-until now.

Unspooling exclusive new recordings of detailed interviews with the mythic director spanning 30 years that ruminate on his philosophies, documentarian Grégory Monro weaves a tapestry of archival footage with the rhythm and care of a consummate historian relishing in his discoveries. No stranger to investigating legends of the screen, Monro’s exuberant and lyrical cinematic essay is vital. Taking viewers on a journey beyond Jupiter, Kubrick by Kubrick celebrates the essence of what film means to those who make it-and those who watch.
