Trailer for the STRANGER THINGS 5 Documentary Shows the Duffers Breaking Under the Weight of the Ending

One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 reveals details on the final stretch of Netflix’s Stranger Things, and the newly released trailer makes it clear this goodbye wasn’t easy for anyone involved.

Dropping January 12, the documentary gives fans an intimate look at how the Duffer brothers and their cast wrestled with closing out a series that’s been part of their lives for a decade.

With the story finally over, Netflix is inviting viewers into the emotional and creative grind that shaped Season 5. Directed by Martina Radwan, the film chronicles years of work on the last chapter of the supernatural coming of age saga created by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer.

In the trailer, we see Matt and Ross visibly overwhelmed as they approach the end of the road, with cast members in tears as they realize they’re saying goodbye to characters they grew up with.

One of the earliest moments in the clip lands hard when one of the brothers admits, “Writing the last lines that these characters would ever say,” before adding, “It was really hard to do.”

That emotional weight only grows as the footage hints at some intense creative debates. At one point, Matt can be seen struggling with a major story decision, saying:

“There was a debate in terms of Eleven’s fate,” followed by, “God I don’t know how to play this. Is she really gonna go through with this?” Moments later, Millie Bobby Brown’s voice cuts in, saying: “I’m not ready to let go.”

Radwan spent an entire year embedded with the production, documenting the Duffer brothers’ process alongside the cast and their long-time collaborators. For her, the experience was deeply personal.

She said, “I’m endlessly grateful to the Duffer Brothers for trusting me with a front-row seat to this incredible journey. Being able to get close and watching them bring this beloved show to life in real time, was pure joy. I only wish I could travel back and document Seasons 1 through 4.

“Everyone welcomed me with remarkable generosity, openly sharing their personal and collective experiences from a decade of creative filmmaking, always pushing the boundaries. The Duffers inspire everyone to be better, including myself, their process and the show represents everything I love about filmmaking.”

The documentary arrives as fans are still processing how the story ultimately wrapped. The series finale debuted on New Year’s Eve 2026, landing both on Netflix and in theaters.

After roughly an hour of all-out chaos in the final battle against Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, and a massive Mind Flayer, the story slowed down to let the characters breathe. The original Hawkins crew graduated high school as the class of 1989, while the older characters moved on to college, still finding their way back to each other.

One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 looks like it’ll be more about heart, capturing the uncertainty, stress, and love that went into ending one of Netflix’s biggest series. For fans who aren’t quite ready to say goodbye, this looks like one more meaningful stop in Hawkins before the lights finally go out.
