Trailer for the SWEENEY TODD-Inspired Horror Comedy THE HORROR OF DOLORES ROACH
Prime Video has released a trailer for the upcoming comedy horror series The Horror of Dolores Roach, which is based on the popular scripted fiction horror podcast of the same name. The story itself seems like it’s inspired by Sweeney Todd.
In the story, “After an unjust 16-year prison sentence, Dolores Roach (Justina Machado) returns home to a gentrified Washington Heights, where she reunites with an old stoner friend, Luis, who lets her live and work as a masseuse in the basement under his empanada shop. When the promise of newfound stability is quickly threatened, ‘Magic Hands’ Dolores is driven to shocking extremes in order to survive.”
She basically starts killing people, and then her friend Luis starts cooking up the human meat from the people she murders and putting it in his empanadas. In Sweeny Todd, the main character is released from prison and returns to London where he lives and works in Mrs. Lovett’s meat pie shop. Sweeney Todd works as a barber and starts killing people, and then Lovett grinds up the meat to put in the meat pies that she sells.
The Horror of Dolores Roach is a series created by writer Aaron Mark, and it also stars Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike, K. Todd Freeman, Ilan Eskenazi, Jessica Pimentel, Jimmy Alvarez, Marc Maron, and Judy Reyes. The horror comedy series launches on Prime Video on July 7th, 2023.
