Trailer for the True Crime Series DIRTY JOHN: THE BETTY BRODERICK STORY with Amanda Peet and Christian Slater
If you enjoyed USA Network’s true crime series Dirty John, you’ll be happy to learn that they have used that to launch a true crime anthology series. The next season is titled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, and the first trailer has been released featuring a completely unhinged Amanda Peet. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Peet in anything, and it looks like she’s landed a crazy role that she fits right into.
I recently listened to a podcast that focused on Betty Broderick, and her story is pretty messed up. She received a sentence of 32 years in prison for killing her ex-husband, Dan, and his second wife, Linda, on November 5, 1989. In the series, Dan is played by Christian Slater.
Dan ended up having his wife committed to a psych ward and also "robbed" her children through a court order. Betty, on the other hand, crashed her car into his home and spray painted his walls. Betty felt that he wanted “to destroy” her and that he is "in control of everything." During the trial, Broderick argued that she was a battered wife who suffered years of physical and psychological abuse.
This is one particular line from Broderick that sets the stage for the story: "I would've been treated better if I had been a dog and served my master. I'm amazed it only took one bullet to kill Dan Broderick.”
The trailer touches on many of these things and it looks like it’s going to be a solid show. I actually kinda liked Dirty John, so I’ll most likely be checking this out.
Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story premieres later this summer on USA.
