Trailer For The WWII War Thriller ONODA: 10,000 NIGHTS IN THE JUNGLE

Dark Star Pictures has released the US trailer for the upcoming World War II war thriller Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle. The film is based on the true story of Japanese soldier, Hiroo Onoda (Endô Yûya), who was sent to an island in the Philippines in 1944.

The 22-year-old soldier was trained for intelligence work, and he “discovers a philosophy contrary to the official line: no suicide, stay alive whatever happens, and the mission is more important than anything else. Sent to Lubang, a small island in the Philippines where the Americans are about to land, this role will be to wage a guerilla war until the return of the Japanese troops. The Empire will surrender soon after…”

When Japan does officially surrender, Onoda ignores it, “trained to survive at all costs in the jungle, he keeps his war going. He will take 10,000 days to capitulate, refusing to believe the end of the Second World War." He ends up spending nearly 30 years on the island.

This is quite a fascinating story and it looks like it will make for an intense film. The film also stars Tsuda Kanji, Matsuura Yūya, Chiba Tetsuya, Katō Shinsuke, Inowaki Kai, and Ogata Issey.

The movie was directed by Arthur Harari and it will be released in select US theaters on October 7th, 2022, then on VOD starting December 13th.
