Trailers For THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU, MICHAEL, SCREAM 7 and DISCLOSURE DAY All Slated for Super Bowl Releases
Every year, the Super Bowl is watched by millions, not just for the game, but for the musical performances, the entertaining commercials, and the movie trailers. This year is no different, as it’s anticipated that all the major studios have lined up to show us their biggest upcoming film trailers.
Lionsgate is releasing a spot for their April 24 Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, starring Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the late King of Pop. The film is being directed by Antoine Fuqua from a script written by John Logan.
Paramount is buzzed to drop a spot for their Dimension/Spyglass Media sequel Scream 7 which opens on February 27. The film welcomes returning franchise stars Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and David Arquette, as well as newcomers Joel McHale, Isabel May, McKenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Ethan Embry, and Mark Consuelos.
Disney hasn’t confirmed what trailers they’ll be bringing to the big show, but they have choices between Pixar’s Hoppers (March 6), live-action Moana (July 10), and Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian and Grogu (Memorial Day weekend May 22. Pixar’s Toy Story 5 could also make a show (June 19).
Deadline reports that Marvel Studios, which has Avengers: Doomsday (Dec 18) and Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Sony (July 31) is sitting out, which is NOT what we’ve been hearing, and would arguably be a Super Bowl anomaly. If they have any footage from these films, which they should… why not tease it?
Illumination will be quite loud with not one, but two tentpoles next Sunday: Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Easter weekend April 1) and Minions 3 (July 1) via Universal. Also, look for Steven Spielberg’s new alien movie, Disclosure Day, to invade the broadcast, that pic touching down on June 12.
Sitting out as they typically do are Netflix’s feature side, Apple Original Films, Sony and Warner Bros. In recent years, the studios have been dropping these spots in the week leading up to Super Bowl similar to other brands.
The month has been named ‘Legendary February’ by NBCUniversal, which will also be broadcasting the Winter Olympics from Milan-Cortina, Italy, and the NBA All-Star game from the Intuit Dome, home of the L.A. Clippers.
The Super Bowl will feature the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots facing off next Sunday, February 8th, in Santa Clara, CA and it can be viewed on NBC/Telemundo/Peacock at 6:30PM Eastern.
