TRANSFORMERS ONE Director and Producer on Possible Sequel - "There's a Lot More Story"

Transformers One director Josh Cooley and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura already have plans to continue the franchise with a potential sequel.

It was previously revealed that this is leading to a "natural trilogy,” and it’s going to explore “Cybertron in a way you've never seen it, that no one's ever seen it before.”

Bonaventura has now opened up a bit more about their sequel plans and its themes saying: "We have themes that we want to explore. A theme that we want to explore in the next movie is trust. And can you win it back? Or once lost, it's gone.

“So we build it around a few big ideas that are also quite action ideas, but mostly we're going to go at it thematically. So now Optimus has now become Optimus Prime.

“What's he going to do to now get all the people of Iacon behind [him] and like how do you do that? Same thing with Megatron. Okay, you got all the Decepticons. Now what?"

He continued: "We're gonna explore the sort of progression of leadership which I think it should be really fun for people so it's not a dry subject and what I like about it is, it's definitely going to fail. It's definitely going to fail because no leader gets it all right."

Cooley then adds: "There's a lot more story, obviously, because they will eventually come to Earth.”

While I’m curious about this movie, I’m still not 100% sold on it. I still think it looks overly silly for what I want from a Transformers movie. But, it’s definitely something that the kids are going to love, and I’m cool with that.

This movie tells the “origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms to become sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.”

The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax / Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16 / Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, and Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 / Bumblebee.

Transformers One will hit theaters on September 20th.
