TREASURE ISLAND First Look Sends David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell & Tom Sweet on a Dangerous Pirate Adventure
Pirates, buried treasure, deadly competition, and David Oyelowo as Long John Silver? Yeah, this could be a fun adaptation of Treasure Island!
The first images have been released for MGM+ and Paramount+’s upcoming six-part adventure series Treasure Island, offering our first look at the new take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic pirate story.
The series stars Oyelowo (Silo) alongside Hayley Atwell (Avengers: Doomsday) as Bess Hawkins and Tom Sweet (Great Expectations) as Jim Hawkins.
The first-look photos also feature Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) as Aaron Graham and Tomer Capone (The Boys) as Billy Bones, giving us an early taste of the characters who will be caught up in the hunt for Captain Flint’s legendary treasure.
The story follows young Jim Hawkins and his fiercely determined mother, Bess, after they come into possession of Flint’s treasure map.
That discovery throws them into a dangerous race for an unimaginable fortune, complete with pirates, competing agendas, and all the trouble you’d expect when a map promising a mountain of treasure lands in the wrong hands.
Joining the main cast are Craige Els (Andor) as Mr. Arrow, Tristan Sturrock (Poldark) as Captain Smollett, and Neil Pendleton (Outlander) as Mr. Cameron.
Treasure Island will premiere October 11 on MGM+ in the United States, followed by its Paramount+ debut in the UK and Ireland on October 12.
The series comes from Robert Murphy (Vera, Shetland), who created the adaptation. Jeremy Lovering, William McGregor, and Paul Walker direct, with Mark Hedges serving as producer.
The show is a Paramount+ original series made in association with MGM+ and Fifth Season, with Playground Entertainment producing. Paramount+ executives Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar commissioned the series.
Stevenson’s story has been adapted countless times, but a six-episode series format gives this version plenty of room to really dig into the story and characters.
More importantly, it’s a full-on pirate adventure! There simply aren’t enough of those on TV these days, and I love Pirate stories!
