TRON: ARES Locks in Disney+ Streaming Date
Disney has officially plugged the next chapter of the Tron saga into its streaming grid. Tron: Ares is set to hit Disney+ on January 7, 2026, giving fans a clear date to revisit the neon-soaked world from home, or watch it for the first time.
The streaming announcement follows the film’s theatrical debut on October 10, where it opened to $33.2 million at the domestic box office. Since then, the sci-fi sequel has pulled in $142.2 million worldwide, proving there’s, unfortunatly, not much life left in the franchise’s digital veins.
This latest installment is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jesse Wigutow. The story shifts the series in a big way, focusing on Ares, a highly advanced AI military program played by Jared Leto.
The character is sent from the Grid into the real world on a dangerous mission, setting off the first direct collision between artificial intelligence beings and humanity.
Alongside Leto, the film stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson. Fans of the original film also get a welcome return, with Jeff Bridges back in the Tron universe.
Music has always been a huge part of the Tron identity, and Tron: Ares doesn’t mess around in that department. The original score and soundtrack were created by the reunited Nine Inch Nails, featuring Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
When Tron: Ares lands on Disney+, the film will be available in IMAX Enhanced, featuring IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio and DTS sound for viewers with certified TVs and AV receivers.
With its theatrical run now behind it and a premium Disney+ presentation locked in, Tron: Ares is lining up to find a whole new audience early next year.
