TRON: LEGACY Producer Says There Have Been TRON 3 Conversations with Disney

I was really bummed out to learn that Disney killed Tron 3 last year. Everything was set and ready to go, then at the last minute before it was about to be greenlit they pulled the plug. It was a devastating blow to the fans.

The title of the sequel was going to be Tron: Ascension and director Joseph Kosinski was back on board to helm the project. Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were also both signed on to reprise their roles of Sam Flynn and Quora.

Well, producer Brigham Taylor, who recently developed The Jungle Book for Disney and the upcoming film The Rocketeers, still hopes Tron 3 will happen and says that there have been conversations with the studio about it. When asked about Tron 3 in an interview with ScreenRant, he said:

"I always hope for that. I just had a wonderful visit to Shanghai, where they have an amazing attraction based on Tron Legacy. The designers just did such an amazing job creating the feeling of stepping onto The Grid, and that indelible visual world that Lisberger created and Kosinski explored… and I think there’s a real stickiness to that that I hope can grow into a film or whatever else. So I don’t know what I’d ‘hint’ at other than that I hope for that, and that there’s obviously been conversations."

I'm a big fan of the original film, and I thought Tron: Legacy was a blast! It's great to know that there's a chance Tron 3 could still happen, but if it does, I doubt it's going to happen any time soon. I'm not going to get excited, and I'm not going to get my hopes up, though, until there is some real, actual movement.
