An incredibly interesting true story of the musical prodigy and champion fencer Chevalier de Saint-Georges is coming to the big screen in a new film titled Black Mozart, as the violinist and composer was called. Stephen Williams, who directed many episodes of Lost, as well as episodes of The Americans, The Walking Dead, Westworld, and Watchmen, will helm the project, from a story and script written by Stefani Robinson, who writes on Atlanta and What We Do In The Shadows.

Here’s the synopsis for the story:

1745 in the French Caribbean, the musical prodigy was the illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner. He rose to improbable heights in French society, dazzling as both a violinist and composer, and a champion fencer. An ill-fated love affair with a French noblewoman, and a falling out with Marie Antoinette and her court led to his untimely downfall.

FX and Searchlight are financing and producing the project. This sounds like a crazy and fun story that’s just one more historical lesson you probably never heard about. Are you interested in this historical figure?
