TURBO KID Directors Set to Helm Teens Vs. Serial Killer Thriller Called SUMMER OF '84
For those of you who are fans of the insane 80s inspired post-apocalyptic film Turbo Kid, you're gonna love the concept of the next film that the directors are working on next! The film is called Summer of '84 and it will be helmed by François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell of RKSS (Roadkill Superstar).
The movie is set in 1984 and it centers around a teen and his friends, who believe their neighbor is a serial killer and they feel obligated to take him down. Here's the official synopsis from Bloody-Disgusting:
The horror-thriller is set in 1984 and centers on 15-year-old neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong who suspects his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news. He and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon puts them in danger.
I love these kinds of stories. I remember when I was a kid I used to think our neighbors were up to no good. The movie sounds like it will be a different take on Alfred Hitchcock's Rear View Window and the Shia Labeouf film Disturbia, only this is set in the 80s and I'm sure it will be a lot crazier.
The script for the film comes from Matt Leslie (Straight Outta Compton) and his writing partner Stephen J. Smith. So on top of the great directors, there's also a great writer on board! Smith had this to say in a statement:
“Summer Of ‘84 taps into the curiosity we all had as kids about what goes on behind closed doors.”
The film is being produced by Gunpowder & Sky, and it's CEO Van Toffler had this to say in a statement:
“How could we not bet on a writer associated with Straight Outta Compton and the directors of Turbo Kid to tell a twisted tale about a peaceful community where a serial killer threatens to shatter the suburban dream."
“It’s a bold, unexpected story told by breakthrough filmmakers, and it’s exactly the kind of novel film we want to make at Gunpowder & Sky.”
The film is set to go into production this July for an end-of-year release date and I'm excited to see how it turns out!
