As Engadget reports, the "live" event was streamed live, but the actual event was edited down over days of filming with significant portions cut out of the broadcast. Among what wasn't seen by fans was hours of robot repairs, and things that would've bored a live viewing audience.

Furthermore, the revelation that the footage was edited means that the results themselves could have been scripted as well.
