Two Iconic Villains That Almost Made It into BATMAN V SUPERMAN
While making Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I’m sure there was a lot of discussion about what and who they wanted to have in the movie. A lot of that stuff never made it into the final cut. For example, in a recent interview with Collider, Zack Snyder revealed that The Joker and The Riddler almost made it into the film. This is what he said about that:
"The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie. We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict."
There were rumors that Joker would appear in the film, but this confirms that those rumors didn’t pan out. The Crown Prince of Crime is going to make his debut in Suicide Squad, but does this mean there’s a chance The Riddler will show up sometime in the future? If they wanted to include him in Batman v Superman, it seems to me that they might have plans for him somewhere down the road.
As for their "mythological presence" being felt in the film, we've already had a little taste of Joker in the trailers. We'll just have to wait and see how The Riddler fits into it. The last time we saw Riddler on the big screen was 21 years ago when Jim Carrey played him in Batman Forever. I was never a fan of what he did with the character, and it would be great to see a new incarnation of the villain, especially in this new DC Extended Universe.
I always imagined the character being kinda like Kevin Spacey’s John Doe from David Fincher’s Se7en — an insanely dark and twisted serial killer who gets a kick out of teasing and taunting people with his riddles.
