Two New Decepticon Villains Revealed in New Photo From BUMBLEBEE
It looks like Starscream won't be the only Decepticon villain in the upcoming Bumblebee film! EW has just released a new photo showing off two more Decepticon characters. One is named Shatter, who takes the form of a cherry-red Plymouth Satellite. She will be voiced by Angela Bassett. The other character is Dropkick, whose vehicle form is a blue AMC Javelin, and he will be voiced by Justin Theroux. There's still no word on who is providing the voice of Starscream.
When talking about these newly revealed characters, director Travis Knight says, “The two main villains are Decepticon muscle cars." He goes on to talk about focusing on the film being a character-driven story:
“When the cast is too big, and you have a finite amount of time, there’s only so much you can do to create an investment in them. This is a more personal, intimate, and character-driven story, so it felt right to keep the villain plot relatively simple and contained. If you keep things lean, you can add a lot of other stuff on top of it that makes it more enjoyable.”
I think that Michael Bay could learn a thing or two about story and character development from director Travis Knight.
The film also stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena (Ferdinand), John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island), and Kenneth Choi (Spider-Man: Homecoming).
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Bumblebee will be released in theaters on December 21st. I imagine we'll get a new trailer at Comic-Con next week, so stay tuned for that!
