Two New Photos From HELLBOY and David Harbour Explains How This Will Be a More Brutal Take on the Character
The first trailer released for Hellboy felt more like a light-hearted action comedy than it did a hardcore gritty horror film, which is how this film has been described by the cast and crew over the past few months.
It’s certainly not the trailer or vibe I was expecting. But in a recent interview with Empire, David Harbour once again explained how this film will be a grittier, more brutal take on the character, saying:
“There’s really a sense that you’re actually killing things, even if they are giants or monsters. You’re chopping their heads off, you’re bathing in their blood and you’re feeling the complex feelings of actually cutting the heart out of another thing. We’re taking the time to deal with the fact that Hellboy is a killer. He’s a weapon.”
Well, why didn’t they tease any of that in the trailer!? Why didn’t the trailer have that darker tone? Obviously, the marketing team isn’t sure how to market the film. I’m still looking forward to seeing it, though, and I hope that it turns out to be good.
I’ve also included a couple new photos for the film for you to check out above and below.
The Hellboy reboot was directed by Neil Marshall and stars David Harbour, Ian McShane as Professor Broom, Milla Jovovich as the Nimue the Blood Queen, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio, and Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida, a witch who has decided that the Blood Queen's wrath has gone on for too long. Then there’s Thomas Haden Church, who is playing Lobster Johnson.
Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.
Hellboy hits theaters on April 12th, 2019. I also included the official trailer below along with an improved fan-made trailer.
