Two New Photos From the Live-Action Film Adaptation of FULL METAL ALCHEMIST

A couple new photos have surfaced from the upcoming live-action adaptation of the hit manga and anime series Full Metal Alchemist. They both feature Ryōsuke Yamada as the alchemist Edward Elric. In the first image, he’s with his little brother Al who is in the suit of armor. In the second image, he’s in the middle of a battle against a beast created from a transmutation circle. This second image looks like a shot that we saw in the teaser trailer for the film that was released last month.

In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical “auto-mail” limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother's bodies...the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

The images come from an official website for the film launched by Warner Bros. The site also announced that a large-scale exhibition for the franchise will be held this fall.

When previously talking about this film adaptation and its faithfulness to the original source material, director Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong) said:

"I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it's a style that doesn't represent a specific race or country. There will never be a scene in which a character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese."

The movie will be released in Japan in winter of 2017. I’m sure it will eventually make its way to the U.S. but we don’t exactly know when.
