Two New Photos From THE SUCIDE SQUAD and James Gunn Explains How It Relates to the Original Film
Thanks to Empire, we have two new photos to share with you from The Suicide Squad featuring both new and familiar characters. Director James Gunn also talked a little bit about the highly-anticipated film, and one of the things he was asked about how the movie relates to David Ayer’s original film. His response to that question is:
“Um, it’s its own thing. It does not contradict the first movie, I don’t think. It might in some small ways… I don’t know…”
When talking about Ayer’s film, Gunn explained:
“Listen, David Ayer’s gotten trouble for the movie. I know it didn’t come out how David wanted it to come out. But he did one really, really great thing, and that is he picked fantastic actors to work with, and he dealt with these actors in building their characters in a really deep and fearless way. It’s something David definitely deserves to be lauded for, and it’s definitely added to this movie.”
Gunn went on to share his thoughts on how The Suicide Squad is different from the Guardians of the Galaxy, saying:
“I think you know, from pretty close to the beginning, that all of the Guardians are good – apart from Nebula, who’s the outlier. But in The Suicide Squad, some of the characters end up being good, some end up being terrible. They don’t just get in fights and say they’re going to kill each other, they actually do get in fights and kill each other. You really don’t know who’s going to live and who’s going to die. I was given full freedom to kill anyone – and I mean anyone – by DC.”
Damn, I can’t wait to watch this movie! When previously talking about the film, Gunn described it as a 1970s style war movie, and he explained, "The Suicide Squad is by far the most fun I've ever had making a movie.”
The cast includes Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Steve Agee as King Shark, and Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, Michael Rooker as Savant, Nathan Fillion is T.D.K., Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Sol Soria, Steve Agee is King Shark, John Cena is Peacemaker, Joaquín Cosío is Mayor General Mateo Suarez, Jennifer Holland is Emilia Harcourt, Storm Reid is Bloodsport's daughter, Tyla, Sean Gunn as Weasle, Flula Borg as Javelin, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, and Mayling Ng as Mongal. Taika Waititi will also be in the film.
The Suicide Squad is currently set to hit theaters on August 6th, 2021.
