Two Sequels for Rian Johnson's KNIVES OUT Headed to Netflix in $450 Million Deal
Netflix has paid a whopping $450 million for the rights to director Rian Johnson’s next two sequels to his murder mystery film Knives Out. Johnson will return to direct Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3 , and he will re-team with Daniel Craig for the films, which is sure to make fans happy.
Craig will reprise his role as private detective Benoit Blanc, and the projects will keep him busy as he leaves the role of James Bond behind him. When previously talking about Knives Out 2, Johnson explained that Detective Blanc will have a whole new case to solve, and it will feature a whole new ensemble cast. I imagine it will be the same deal with Knives Out 3.
Johnson also shared a little bit about what it’s been like for him working on it the sequel saying a few months ago, “It’s been such a mindfuck, because I sat on the idea for the first one for 10 years. And with this one, I’m starting with a blank page. It’s not really a Knives Out sequel. I need to come up with a title for it so I can stop calling it The Knives Out Sequel because it’s just Daniel Craig as the same detective with a totally new cast.”
Johnson also shared in another interview that he’d “be thrilled to do another Knives Out every few years.” Well, it looks like Netflix is going to give him that opportunity! I loved the first movie and I’m excited to see what Johnson will deliver in these upcoming sequels.
