Preview - Scarlet Witch #1 - The Quest To Fix Witchcraft
Marvel really seems to be focusing more on the magic parts of their universe post Secret Wars, and Wanda Maximoff is benefitting from that newly focused spotlight. The new series features writer James Robinson at the helm, along with a revolving cast of A-list artists, including Vanessa Del Ray, Steve Dillon, Marguerite Sauvage, Joelle Jones, and many more. Scarlet Witch will find herself in a variety of locations, such as Manhattan, the Greek Isles, and Hong Kong, all while attempting to fix what has long been taken for granted, Witchcraft. Something, or someone, has broken it, and Wanda has taken it upon herself to fix it.

I’m all for this solo take on Scarlet Witch. A sort of magical detective who solves crimes or cases with a heavy magical and supernatural bent while also trying to solve a much bigger puzzle. Hopefully her being for the most part on her own (aside from a few guest appearances, I imagine) will allow Robinson to really delve into how her powers work, and what is behind them, and allow him some creative room to work. As for the art, while I’m typically not keen on revolving art teams, if they can use that to their advantage with all the varying locales Wanda will be visiting, then it could actually prove to work in the book's favor. For the record, I'm really liking what I have seen so far of Vanessa Del Rey's work in issue one.
Scarlet Witch #1 releases on December 9. You can get a glimpse of the first issue in the preview above, and some of the launch variants below.
