UNDERWORLD Director Len Wiseman Confirms That the TV Series Is Still in Development
The Kate Beckinsale-led Underworld horror action franchise has had a great run with five movies, all of which are entertaining. Way back in 2016, a TV series was announced for the franchise, but it hasn’t really seemed to gain any momentum. It’s been a long time since we’ve had an update on the project and because of that, I just assumed it was dead. Well, it seems that’s not the case.
Underworld franchise director Len Wiseman recently offered an update on the project during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and he confirmed the project is still in development. He said: “There is a fashion that is in the works. I can’t talk about it, but there is a future to Underworld for sure.”
Wiseman was then specifically asked about the planned TV series, and he responded: “That’s the one I’m referring to.” When previously talking about the project, he explained:
“The series will be a pretty big departure from the films. I don’t want to say it’s more adult, but it’s definitely less comic book in its tone and character.”
There's no word on if the series will be connected to films in any way, but I assume if the series will be a "big departure" from the films, it won't be.
I’m a fan of this franchise, and it’ll be interesting to see what this series ends up being… if it actually ever really gets made.
