Unfortunately FOX is Still Committed to The FANTASTIC FOUR Franchise

Josh Trank's Fantastic Four completely bombed at the box office this weekend, and it seems like this version of the film is even more hated than the first two. There was apparently a lot of behind-the-scenes drama in the development of the film.

According to some reports, the studio didn't make it easy on a director who wasn't ready to take on such a big studio film. EW reports that the studio "delayed casting and script approvals, slashed the budget by tens of millions from what was originally promised, and tried to force last-minute changes to the film just as principal photography was beginning."

They go on to explain that there were a lot of script issues as well with the studio, and there was "hemming and hawing on approvals for the final script," which "stalled crew workers who were trying to build sets, make costumes, props, and prep the movie. This created confusion and stress from the get-go that often boiled over among department heads trying to put together pieces of a movie that was still in flux."

They obviously didn't fix any of these script issues, because the script they ended up with seemed like it was written by a 10-year-old kid. So things seemed to get ridiculously complicated and out-of-hand. All of this played a hand in the reports about Trank going crazy on the set. It's very clear he wasn't ready for this. Trank then made matters worse with that tweet he sent out.

Regardless of how absolutely awful this film was in every way, and how cursed this franchise is, 20th Century Fox is unfortunately still committed to it. A representative released the following statement to THR:

"While we're disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe."

Please don't remain committed! Please just let it go already! I'm sorry Fox, but you have no idea how to handle these characters. I seriously just wish they would let it go. They either need to let Marvel buy the rights to Fantastic Four, or at least allow them to co-develop the characters like Marvel and Sony are doing with Spider-Man.

If Fox actually attempts to make another Fantastic Four movie, the fans are going to shit all over them. I don't even think Bryan Singer working with Fox on it could save it at this point. I think Fox has completely lost the trust of the fans and audiences on this franchise. As long as they keep moving forward with this franchise without Marvel's involvement, there's no way another movie would succeed — it would just be another flop.

As you know, Fox and Marvel are currently in negotiations to make a live-action X-Men series. I personally think Marvel should use this as leverage to get the Fantastic Four rights back! X-Men is Fox's big money maker, so Marvel should give them the rights to make an X-Men TV series, and in the process get Fantastic Four back. Then we could have a new fresh take on Fantastic Four developed by Marvel sometime after the year 2020.

I believe that Marvel's the best chance we have at ever seeing a decent Fantastic Four movie.
