Universal Is Producing an Amblin-Inspired Family Adventure Film Called OUTSIDE THE BOX

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to a new family adventure film project called Outside The Box. The film is said to have fantasy elements with the tone of the movies made by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin banner in the 1980s.

The film comes from Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky, who are behind the upcoming sci-fi thriller Freaks. They will write and direct the film, but unfortunately, we don’t have any plot details to share with you at this time.

The duo’s upcoming film Freaks stars Emile Hirsch, Bruce Dern, and Lexy Kolker. The film tells the story of a young girl who may be more than she seems and who ventures out of the house she's been locked in by her father. The film has been making the rounds at the film festivals and has been compared by many to Spielberg’s early films. When talking about Freaks and their future, the filmmakers said:

“We made this film so we could show the world the voice that we have, that we wanted to show what we could do. It’s led to all sorts of exciting things. One of the coolest is getting a lot of our idols, people that we never thought we’d ever get to meet, getting to see the film and love the film and then want to work with us, which has been really incredible. Above that, we’ve really wanted to do more with the world. In the film, you’ve seen one little slice of this world because we told a small story, but we feel like there’s a much bigger world to explore. Which we would love to do…[this movie has] led to maybe being able to make more in the world of Freaks. That would be awesome, if possible.”

You can watch the trailer for Freaks here. I’m looking forward to seeing Freaks, and it’ll be interesting to see what this next film project, Outside the Box, turns out to be.
