Universal Pictures Developing a Remake of THE MOLE PEOPLE with Robert Kirkman Producing
Universal Pictures is moving forward with a remake of the classic 1956 horror movie The Mole People. The project was pitched to the studio by Chris Winterbauer, and the studio obviously liked what they heard! Winterbauer will write the script for the movie and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is set to produce.
The original film tells the story of archaeologists who find a lost underground city of pale people and mutant slaves. The darkness-dwellers are led by a high priest who rules over the mole people and is threatened by the newcomers and wants to kill them.
The new movie will follow a woman who travels to “a town veiled in a conspiracy to rescue her grandchildren from their father. To do this, she must fight through hell in the underground tunnels where the Mole People reside.”
This may not be one of the most popular horror movies from Universal’s vault, but it is a fun flick, and I actually like the fact that they are looking to revamp it for a new generation of audiences. It sounds like it could be an awesome movie that will be a blast to watch!
