Universal Pictures is Developing a Sequel to MAMA MIA
The popular Broadway musical, turned feature film Mama Mia is officially getting a sequel. Universal announced that the second installment of the 2008 hit, Mama Mia: Here We Go Again! will be written and directed by Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).
Variety reports that Universal has been wanting to make a sequel to the movie for years and now has a plan. A source tells them "that one angle could focus on Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan characters years before the original takes place."
Like the original film and the iconic musical, the sequel will be based on the music of the popular '70s group ABBA.
I, for one, didn't mind the first movie, aside from the fact that it ruined my man crush on Pierce Brosnan. It was very hard to watch the former Double-O struggle with his musical scenes. What do you guys think, excited, irritated, or don't care?
Mama Mia: Here We Go Again is set to release on July 20, 2018.
