Universal Pulls Chris Pratt's COWBOY NINJA VIKING From Release Schedule
We recently heard that Cowboy Ninja Viking cast Priyanka Chopra and things were looking great for the film and it seemed like it was on track. When I saw that it was set to release June 28, 2019, I thought that was cutting it a bit close if they have just cast their second actor which is why I wasn’t completely surprised when I found out Universal has unlisted the movie from their release schedule.
Variety reports the film is still being made and is “still in active development,” it just no longer has a release date. The idea is that now the film won’t be rushed. Rushing films has always been a problem in Hollywood, but it sounds like Universal is trying to avoid that problem with this Chris Pratt film.
Cowboy Ninja Viking is based on the graphic novel by A.J. Lieberman with illustrations by Riley Rossmo for Image Comics. It follows a character named Duncan, who is part of a secret government program that turns schizophrenics into assassins. Duncan comes through the program with the badass skill sets and personalities of a Cowboy, a Ninja, and a badass Viking. Most of the patients that are involved in the program are sent back to an insane asylum, but Duncan escapes and uses his skills to track down the billionaire who masterminded the program.
The adaptation is being handled by Dan Mazeau and Ryan Engle with earlier versions of the screenplay being penned by Craig Mazin, Paul Wernick, and Everett David Reese.
