Unnerving Trailer for the Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton Thriller THE GIFT
I'm actually really curious about this new psychological thriller The Gift. It has a great cast that consists of Jason Bateman, Joel Edgerton and Rebecca Hall. It's a little strange to see Bateman taking on such a serious role because he's mostly known for his comedy work. It looks like a solid movie, though. The trailers have had a very unsettling vibe, which I dig.
Edgerton doesn't just star in the movie, it's also his directorial debut. He plays a character named Gordo who reconnects with an old classmate from school named Simon, who is played by Batemen. There seems to be a little more to this little reunion than meets the eye, though. Gordo seems to have a crazy grudge against Simon, and he's looking to make his life a living hell.
Here's the official synopsis:
Can you really go through life having never wronged anyone? Even if you are unaware of how, or when, and even who you may have wronged….chances are there is someone out there who won’t ever forget it…or you.
Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robyn (Rebecca Hall) are a young married couple whose life is going just as planned until a chance encounter with an acquaintance from Simon’s high school sends their world into a harrowing tailspin. Simon doesn’t recognize Gordo (Joel Edgerton) at first, but after a seemingly coincidental series of encounters proves troubling, a horrifying secret from their past is uncovered after nearly 20 years. As Robyn learns the unsettling truth about what happened between Simon and Gordo, she starts to question: how well do we really know the people closest to us, and are past bygones ever really bygones?
The movie comes out on August 7th.
