Updates on ARROW and THE FLASH, Both Premiering This Week

This week sees the premiere of The Flash and the return of Arrow, both on the CW. The Flash airs tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 7), and I am so excited for you guys to see it. I really loved the pilot, so I can’t wait to see where they take things from there. To get you pumped up, here is another promo for it. This one is called “Destiny,” and to be honest, I have no idea if it has any new footage in it. Between seeing the pilot and all the previous trailers and promos, I cannot for the life of me remember what has been officially released and what hasn’t, but it's full of entertaining footage. On top of the promo, Comic Book Resources spoke to series star Rick Cosnett (Detective Eddie Thawne) and got some hints at what may lie ahead.

"I think that's going to be the intriguing thing to see, whether he's the white or the black sheep of this family of Thawnes. I think the producers are up to do a lot of twists and to really shock the fans, especially in terms of the first season. The intriguing thing is, 'Who are these people, really?' We're trying to show the humanity of them, in social situations and in the present day, I think. It's also quite funny, which I think is going to be surprising to people. It has little gags and everything. It's epic, but it's also human and funny."

The Thawne family also spawned Professor Zoom, aka Reverse-Flash, a supervillain with superspeed, but he is usually from the future. It’s possible that Detective Thawne will become the Reverse-Flash, or maybe an early forerunner. From the pilot, we do know that supervillain or not, Det. Thawne and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) will be at odds over something, though I won’t say what that is. Cosnett also mentioned Cobalt Blue, Barry’s evil twin who was raised by the Thawnes, leaving fans wondering if we’ll see him on the show this season.

"It was fascinating to me, and I think the family lineage -- they're quite wealthy and they're from this old money world of deep, deep dark secrets. It's also fascinating with the whole Barry's twin [storyline], and who that is and who it's going to become. You also not only have the Reverse-Flash, you also have the Wally [West] kid, and we've had Wentworth Miller on the show and all sorts of amazing guest stars like Robbie Amell already. Things are turning over quite quickly, and I think you're going to see some people in other suits pretty soon."

On the Arrow front, hot on the heels of last week’s clip comes this new clip from the premiere, which is called “The Calm.” It is not calm in any way. Calling it “The Calm” is like calling a large man Tiny. In the clip, the Arrow (Stephen Amell) battles Werner Zytle/Count Vertigo (Peter Stormare) in a tattoo parlor. Count Vertigo’s abilities are a little embellished in this version, and the resulting fight is… well, watch the video. I will say that Amell’s very important workouts have been paying off. Arrow is back for a third season on Wednesday, October 8.
