Uwe Boll is Set To Direct a Film About Elliot Ness and His Hunt For "The Butcher of Kingsbury Run"
Uwe Boll, the notorious German filmmaker who has made a slew of terrible films over the course of his career, is set to direct a new action film about Elliot Ness, the special prohibition agent in the 1930s who famously took down Al Capone. The movie is titled Ness and Boll has been given a $25 million budget.
Brian de Palma previously told the story of Elliot Ness in his 1987 film The Untouchables, and Ness was played by Kevin Costner in the movie. I love that film.
Boll’s movie will explore Eliot Ness’ later career, “as he tries to catch a serial killer known as ‘The Butcher of Kingsbury Run,’ responsible for a number of grisly murders in Cleveland’s Kingsbury Run shantytown.”
This is actually a fascinating story and I’ve wondered in the past if anyone would make a movie about it. It’s a shame that Boll will be directing it because he just doesn’t make good movies. Some of his films include BloodRayne, House of the Dead, Far Cry, Rampage, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, Assault on Wall Street, and Alone in the Dark, all of which I’ve seen.
There’s not a film he’s made that I’ve seen that I’ve liked. But, I’ll watch this one because I’m curious to see how he’s going to handle the story.
Boll shared in a statement: “People who say they hate my movies have mostly seen one, maybe two films, maybe [flops] Far Cry or Alone in the Dark. They don’t mention my more political films [like] Rampage, Assault on Wall Street or Attack on Darfur… Netflix has something like 15-20 of my films. [I’m] a real filmmaker, I’ve made 34 movies, many with big stars, that can no longer be denied.”
While I don’t really care for his films, the guy has been able to have a successful career making movies, so he must be doing something right!
The script for the film comes from Whitney Scott Bain, and it’s inspired by the true-life case. Boll is currently casting the film and plans to start shooting in 2023.
