VAMPIRE CARNIVAL Trailer Opens the Gates to a Twisted World Where Vampires Feed on Despair

Aura Entertainment has released the first trailer for Vampire Carnival, an indie horror film that trades the usual bloodsucking vampire routine for something a little more sinister. These creatures feed on human despair, and they’ve found the perfect hunting ground inside a mysterious traveling carnival.

The story centers on Gemma, played by Nell Verlaque, a grieving young woman haunted by her past. When a strange carnival suddenly rolls into her small town, she finds herself pulled toward its eerie attractions and the possibility of escaping the pain she’s carrying.

Of course, joining a creepy carnival in a vampire movie rarely leads anywhere good. Gemma soon discovers that the carnival serves as a gateway to a hidden underground world populated by vampires who survive by feeding on despair rather than blood. Its seductive illusions begin to trap her, and getting out comes with a serious price.

Things get even more complicated when Gemma falls for a handsome stranger, only for someone from her past to reappear and threaten their relationship. Long-buried secrets start coming to the surface as Gemma is forced to confront the carnival’s followers, their mysterious leader, and the trauma she’s spent years trying to escape. If she can’t break free, she could end up becoming one of the carnival’s permanent attractions.

The film also stars Kieron Moore, Paulina Chávez, Alicia Sanz, Eion Macken, and Jason Isaacs. Vampire Carnival is co-directed by David Charbonier and Justin Douglas Powell, the filmmaking duo behind The Boy Behind the Door, The Djinn, and Push. Jason Filardi and Peter Filardi wrote the screenplay.

The traveling carnival angle gives the filmmakers plenty of creepy imagery to play with, while the idea of vampires feeding on emotional misery offers a different spin on familiar mythology. Gemma’s grief also puts her directly in the path of creatures that can exploit exactly what she’s struggling with.

Aura Entertainment will release Vampire Carnival in select U.S. theaters on October 7th, 2026.
