VELMA Season 2 Reportedly in The Works!?
After seeing the massive backlash against Mindy Kaling’s HBO Max animated series Velma, I didn’t think we would see a second season. But, despite the ongoing controversy, Season 2 of the adult-themed Scooby-Doo-inspired series is reportedly in the works!
This news comes from a registry update from Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR). After the recent update, the catalog now lists Velma Season 2 as in the works under HBO Max and Warner Bros. The entry also says that the possible new season will consist of 11 episodes.
I hope that this update is getting ahead of itself and that there’s no truth to it. Velma is seriously one of the worst shows that has ever been made. We’ve already done a couple of rants about it on the site, but even that can’t prepare you for how bad the show actually is.
Now, the premiere episode did have record viewings for HBO Max, but it has earned a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and people are just hating it all over review sites and social media. So why are so many people watching? Some are just curious, while others are hate-watching.
The real test will be to see how many people show up to watch future episodes. I’m personally done with this mean-spirited unfunny trash. But you never know, some people might continue to hate-watch it. Hell, there might actually be people out there that like this series!
The series gives us a pointless origin story of Velma Dinkley, “the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang.” But, she certainly doesn’t act like she has brains in the series. “This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America's most beloved mystery solvers.” No, it doesn’t.
The series features Mindy Kaling (The Office, The Mindy Project) in the voice of the title character, as well as comedian Constance Wu as Daphne, Sam Richardson as Shaggy, and Glenn Howerton as Fred. Additional cast members include Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysak, and Karl-Anthony Towns.
This series is such an epic disappointment.
