Since the new trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage dropped online recently, fans have been breaking it down and trying to find hints that the film is set in the MCU. Well, it’s not. Director Andy Serkis has confirmed that the Sony sequel is set in its own universe and is not part of the MCU.

While talking to IGN, Serkis said, "Obviously, there are links between Venom and Spider-Man and the Marvel Universe and the Spider-Man story. But in this, we're treating this very much as it's his own world. The Venom story is his own world."

Serkis continued, "There are nods and little moments, just like this newspaper, the Daily Bugle of course, but on the whole he's unaware. They are unaware, at this point, of other characters like Spider-Man. So, that's the way we've chosen to play this particular episode of the movie, but, well, we'll wait and see. We'll see what little things you can pick out of it."

Now, while this movie is not a part of the MCU and it’s set in its own universe, there’s still the strong possibility that when the multiverse breaks open in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the MCU universe and this separate universe that Venom resides in will collide.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage doesn’t look like it has the same quality of filmmaking that we are seeing from Marvel Studios, but I hope it turns out better than the first one.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to release on September 24, 2021.
