VENOM Animated Movie in the Works From FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES Directors

There’s a new Venom movie slithering into development, and this one could take the character somewhere we haven’t seen before.

Sony is developing an animated feature centered on the infamous symbiote, and the filmmakers stepping up to tackle it are the directing duo behind the recent horror hit Final Destination: Bloodlines. If you’re a fan of Venom’s chaotic energy and twisted sense of humor, this has the potential to be something seriously cool.

According to reports, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who helmed Final Destination: Bloodlines, are set to direct the animated Venom project. That film reignited the long-running horror franchise and pulled in an impressive $317.9 million at the box office, putting the duo firmly on Hollywood’s radar.

Animation feels like a perfect playground for a character like Venom. The symbiote’s grotesque transformations and unhinged physicality could be pushed way further than what we’ve seen in live-action.

With the right creative swing, this could end up being more inventive and visually wild than the Venom movies starring Tom Hardy.

Hardy, who played Eddie Brock and his razor-toothed other half across three live-action Venom films, is reportedly involved in the animated project. It’s still unclear whether he’ll return to voice the character or step into a different role behind the scenes. The film is in early development, so there’s plenty of room for things to evolve.

While critics were rough on the live-action Venom trilogy, audiences showed up in a big way. The franchise raked in over $1.8 billion worldwide, proving that fans love watching Eddie and his symbiote tear through San Francisco and beyond.

Sony Pictures will produce the film through Sony Pictures Animation, the same studio that delivered the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its visually stunning sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

A third chapter, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently slated to hit theaters in 2027. With that track record, there’s real reason to believe this animated Venom could carve out its own distinct style.

Given Lipovsky and Stein’s horror background, this doesn’t sound like it’s aiming for a Saturday morning cartoon vibe. Venom has always thrived in darker territory, and leaning into that tone through animation could give Sony something totally different within its Marvel universe.

On top of that, Lipovsky and Stein are also set to co-write Gremlins 3 alongside Chris Columbus, who will direct and produce the film, with Steven Spielberg attached as executive producer. That project is expected to arrive in 2027, meaning these filmmakers are about to have a very geek-friendly few years ahead of them.

An animated Venom opens up a ton of possibilities. Go full horror. Go psychedelic. Go full symiotic crazy. The symbiote is one of Marvel’s most unpredictable characters, and animation might finally give him the freedom to be as monstrous and unhinged as he deserves.

If this lands the way it could, we might be looking at the most exciting version of Venom yet.
