VICE Explores The Genius of Director Ridley Scott in Short Doc Featuring Sigourney Weaver, Orlando Bloom, and More

VICE has released a short documentary film titled From Alien to Blade Runner: The Genius of Ridley Scott. The video explores the legendary filmmaker and the work that he’s done. The video includes interviews with Sigourney Weaver, Orlando Bloom, and Geena Davis, along with screenwriter Simon Kinberg, who reflects on the director, “who has taken us from the ancient past to dystopian futures.”

They discuss several different aspects of the filmmaker and what he’s done in the industry and one of the things they point out is how Scott empowered the female roles in films:

“He’s very attracted to female characters who are the captains of their own ship. 'Alien sets in motion the idea that you can have tough women at the center of big Hollywood spectacle films. Alien and Blade Runner,  just those two stand as.. two of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. …by having Louise kill the attacker not in self-defense but because of his sexist taunt… Scott’s Road movie becomes a vehicle for social commentary it’s almost like a feminist movement movie.”

It touches on a lot of different things about Scott, so if you’re a fan of the filmmaker… this is a must watch!
