The latest one looks at San Andreas and 2012, and seeing all of the story similarities really brings to the surface how formulaic these disaster movies are when you break them down into plot beats. If a movie is any good, it'll make you forget that you're watching something that's been crafted by a screenwriter and pull you into its story; if not, these aspects will feel like little more than the filmmakers just checking boxes on the way to the finish line.
