One of the things that always amazed me about J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth stories is that the author created languages and then built the world of Middle Earth around them. Today we have a fascinating video to share with you that dives in and explains these constructed languages:

Nowadays authors are constantly making up words and languages for the worlds they build, but Tolkien was unique in that he constructed languages first, and then created worlds so his fictional languages would have somewhere to live.
