Video: Inside Weta's Visual Effects Work on Disney's PETE'S DRAGON

I still haven't had a chance to see Pete's Dragon, David Lowery's reimagining of the 1970s Disney live-action/animation hybrid. I'll check that off the list soon (I've heard nothing but terrific things about it), but even in the early footage I saw from the film, I knew it would look outstanding. Now Wired has released a video that dives into the work that New Zealand digital effects company Weta did for the movie, and how they altered the technology for Elliot's invisibility to make it feel as if it had a tangible, tactile purpose for the story. (Thankfully there aren't really any spoilers here, though I can tell they walk right up to the line instead of crossing it.)

Design FX dives into the incredible special effects of Pete's Dragon. How were the team at WETA able to make Elliot (the titular dragon) appear invisible? Mike Seymour breaks down the techniques used to accomplish this spectacular effect. Still haven't subscribed to WIRED on YouTube?
