Vin Diesel Says FAST FOREVER Is the “Best Script” He’s Read in Decades: “I Am Still Crying”
The Fast & Furious franchise has taken fans on one wild ride over the last quarter century. From street racing in Los Angeles to globe-trotting missions involving submarines, space travel, and enough explosions to level a city, this series has become one of Hollywood's biggest action franchises.
Now, as The Fast and the Furious celebrates its 25th anniversary with a return to theaters, Vin Diesel is making some huge promises about the saga's final chapter.
Diesel took to Instagram over the weekend to celebrate the original 2001 film heading back to theaters on August 21, while also building anticipation for the franchise finale, Fast Forever, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
Sharing a trailer for the original movie, Diesel told fans: “You have no idea… When March 17th 2028 comes… you will thank God you got to see the first one in the theaters this summer.”
But it was what he said next that really grabbed attention. “I just read the Fast Forever script by Mike Leslie. It is the best script I have read in decades. I am still crying…”
Those are some massive expectations to set for the final chapter of a franchise that has earned more than $7 billion worldwide. If Diesel's reaction is genuine, he's clearly convinced the story is going to deliver an emotional sendoff for Dominic Toretto and the family that audiences have followed since 2001.
Last month, Diesel also reassured fans that everyone involved is focused on giving the series the ending it deserves, saying: “Over the past three and a half years, we’ve been grinding to try to make the most amazing finale,”
Even though the main film series is preparing to cross the finish line, the Fast & Furious universe isn't disappearing entirely. Diesel has previously revealed that NBCUniversal has four television series in development that will continue expanding the franchise in new directions.
As for Fast Forever, I'm cautiously optimistic. I love this franchise. The original The Fast and the Furious is still, in my opinion, the best film of the entire series. As the movies grew bigger, they also became more ridiculous, and while I've had a lot of fun with most of them, I don't think many of the scripts have ever been particularly strong.
Then there's Fast X. That movie was a huge disappointment for me. It had entertaining moments, but the story was the messiest in the franchise.
So when Diesel says Fast Forever is "the best script" he's read in decades, I'm hoping he's right. I'd love nothing more than to see this franchise stick the landing after spending 25 years with these characters.
If this really is the emotional conclusion he's promising, maybe Dominic Toretto and the family will get the farewell they've earned.
We'll find out when Fast Forever races into theaters on March 17, 2028. Until then, fans will have the chance to revisit where it all began when The Fast and the Furious returns to theaters this August.
