Vin Diesel Says Sony Pictures is "Going To Lead The Charge in the Superhero Movies of the Future"
Vin Diesel is currently shooting the comic book adaptation of Bloodshot for Sony Pictures. The studio is said to be developing it as an R-rated film that is being likened to Robocop, Terminator, and Total Recall. They want it to have that classic 1980s action movie tone.
Diesel will be playing a super-soldier created by the secret government organization called Project Rising Spirit. When he is brought back from the dead through the use of nanotechnology and suffering total memory loss, he struggles to reconnect with who he was while also learning what sort of weapon he has become, with the help of a group of other augmented combatants called Chainsaw. Bloodshot also has powers of regeneration, technomancy and meta-morphing, which was made possible through nanites that were injected into his blood.
This could be a great film, but Sony has a track-record for making mediocre comic book movies, so who know how it will turn out. Diesel seems to think that Sony is leading the charge of superhero movies of the future, though! He explains why here:
“You're watching something and you're going...I guess I expected that we would finally get here in the superhero universe, but I can't believe we're here. Dave Wilson, who's directing it. Guy Pierce, who's in it is insane. We just have a great cast. Sony, you know that Sony is finally going to lead the charge in the superhero movies of the future because they're incorporating a part of reality and incorporating issues that exist in society and embedding them into a quote-unquote superhero movie. It's just awesome."
Isn’t that what Marvel has been doing? Maybe I missed something, but it’s hard to see Sony Pictures leading the charge in superhero movies because of what Marvel has accomplished. No one has been able to match what they’ve done. Hell, Diesel works with Marvel, he should know this!
But, I guess right now since he’s working on Bloodshot, he’s on the Sony Pictures hype train. Now, I’m not saying a studio won’t come along and give Marvel a run for their money, but I’m still not convinced that it’s Sony. Although, a lot of people did like Venom, and I love what I’ve seeing from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so maybe some fans have a different opinion.
What do you all think about Diesel’s comments?
Bloodshot is being directed by Dave Wilson, who is Deadpool director Tim Miller's partner at Blur Studios. The film is being written by Eric Heisserer (Arrival) and it also stars Guy Pirece, Michael Sheen, Eiza González, Talulah Riley, Alex Hernandez, Toby Kebbell, and “Outlander’s” Sam Heughan.
