Vin Diesel Teases His New Groot Movie THE ARBOR KING, Hints at Return to Planet X

It looks like Groot is branching out into his own Marvel Cinematic Universe solo adventure, and Vin Diesel is hyping it up once again. The actor just dropped a fresh tease about the mysterious project titled The Arbor King, and it sounds like we're finally going to see Groot return to his roots.

Diesel took to Instagram to share his excitement, revealing that he’s actively developing and writing the film. According to his post, The Arbor King is “the long-awaited story of Groot’s return” to Planet X, his homeworld. It’s a big tease for fans who’ve been hoping to see more of Groot’s backstory and culture in the MCU.

The post also included a piece of key art showing an unfamiliar version of Groot, and what appears to be an older version of Hulk standing beside him. Whether this image ties directly into the story of the movie or not is still unclear, but it’s interesting.

While Marvel Studios has yet to make any official announcements about the project, Diesel's involvement suggests it’s something that's actively being explored behind the scenes. If it does get the greenlight, The Arbor King would mark the MCU’s first feature-length film centered entirely on Groot. That’s a major step for a character who’s mostly played a supporting role so far.

Personally, I could see somthing like this being more of a Marvel Special Presentation project.

Fans last saw Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where he and Rocket were the final remaining original Guardians. Diesel, who’s voiced Groot across six MCU films including the Guardians trilogy, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, has become synonymous with the character. He also lent his voice to the Disney+ series I Am Groot and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby, Groot is one of Marvel’s most beloved oddball fun heroes, a tree-like alien who famously speaks only one phrase: “I am Groot.”

If The Arbor King moves forward, it’ll be awesome to see what kind of story Diesel and Marvel have cooked up, especially if it digs deeper into Groot’s origins and the lore of Planet X.
