Vin Diesel Wants Robert Downey Jr. to Play the "Antithesis of Dom" in the Next FAST AND FURIOUS Movie
The Fast and Furious franchise has seen a lot of big A-list actors show up in their films over the years. Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, Rita Moreno, Jason Momoa, and more have appeared in the franchise! Now, Vin Diesel has got his sights set on another super popular actor… Robert Downey Jr.!
When asked about his dream casting at the recent Fast X trailer premiere, Diesel, who plays Dom Toretto, dropped Downey Jr.’s name as an actor he’d like to have in the next Fast and Furious movie. He even teased the character that he wanted him to play, and described the character as the “antithesis of Dom.” He explained:
“Without telling you too much about what happens in the future, there’s a character who is the antithesis of Dom who is promoting AI and driverless cars and a philosophy that with that goes your freedom. There is somebody that believes that’s the future, and that’s at direct odds with the Toretto mentality.”
Diesel was then asked if he had actually talked to Downey Jr. about the role and he growled and playfully said, “How dare you ask me this question in front of all these people? I have pride and I have dignity.”
Michelle Rodriguez was also asked about who she’d like to see in the final Fast and Furious film and she dropped Matt Damon’s name. She said:
“Who’s the guy from these amazing Jason Bourne movies? Matt Damon! I f**king want Matt Damon. Matt Damon, would you be in a Fast and Furious’movie? C’mon, we got four Oscar winners, man. And you’re an Oscar winner!”
It’ll be interesting to see if Diesel actually ends up landing Downey Jr. or Matt Damon. I have no doubt that Diesel will make a valiant effort.
Louis Leterrier is directing Fast X, having replaced Justin Lin after he jumped off the project. The script for the film came from Lin and Dan Mazeau, and while we don’t have any plot details to share on the tenth film, we know for a fact that it’s going to deliver some insane and ridiculous action!
The cast of Fast X also includes Tyrese Gibson, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michael Rooker, Jordana Brewster, Daniela Melchior, Ludacris, Scott Eastwood, and Cardi B. It’s also rumored that Gal Gadot will show up in the movie, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Fast X is set to race into theaters on May 19th, 2023.
