Vin Diesel's BLOODSHOT Is Being Released on VOD Later This Month

Vin Diesel’s new action film Bloodshot was released in theaters right as the coronavirus hit the U.S., and as you might imagine, the movie tanked at the box office with only $9.1 million dollars. Not long after, theaters shut down, and in the wake of that, Columbia Pictures is going to release the film on VOD.

Bloodshot will be available to watch on March 24th for $19.99. The movie never really got a fair shot, and it was supposed to set up a whole cinematic universe for other Valiant Comics characters, but who knows if that’s something that will ever happen now.

Tom Rothman, Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group said in a statement:

“Sony Pictures is firmly committed to theatrical exhibition and we support windowing. This is a unique and exceedingly rare circumstance where theaters have been required to close nationwide for the greater good and Bloodshot is abruptly unavailable in any medium. Audiences will now have the chance to own Bloodshot right away and see it at home, where we are all spending more time. We are confident that — like other businesses hit hard by the virus — movie theaters will bounce back strongly, and we will be there to support them.”

I hope that the theaters bounce back. I’m definitely someone who prefers watching movies in a theater to watching them at home. There are just too many distractions at home for me.

A lot of people think that releasing movies at home could be a new way for movie studios to release their films, but I think that once movie theaters are up and running again, it will eventually normalize. However, maybe they’ll start releasing movies earlier on VOD depending on how the numbers turn out during this time of crisis. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Diesel takes on the role of Ray Garrison in the story, “a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.”

The film was directed by Dave Wilson, who is Deadpool director Tim Miller's partner at Blur Studios. The film is being written by Eric Heisserer (Arrival). It also stars Toby Kebbell, Michael Sheen, Eiza González, Talulah Riley, Alex Hernandez, and Outlander’s Sam Heughan.

Will you be watching Bloodshot when it’s available to order?
