Vince Gilligan Says Season 2 PLURIBUS Script Hasn't Been Finished but the Story Is Plotted Out

Rhea Seehorn won the Emmy this week for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her starring role in creator Vince Gilligan’s series Pluribus. The show is incredibly original and it gained a fanbase quickly for it’s great writing and twisty turny sci-fi storyline. So when can we expect a second season? Probably not for a while still.

The first season premiered in November 2025, and while some shows, especially those on network TV, come out regularly at the same time each year, streaming shows have a little more variability. The Pluribus IMDb page says the second season is expected in 2027, and an update from Seehorn and Gilligan at the Emmy’s confirms that we definitely have a wait ahead of us.

Deadline reports that during a backstage conversation with the press, Seehorn said Gilligan has completed the first two scripts of Season 2, but “I don’t have anything,” she said, meaning she hasn’t seen the scripts.

Gilligan, who also won an Emmy for Drama Series Writing, explained, “It took us a while, we figured it out, but Season 2 is not technically all written. We’ve broken it out, which is the hard part. In other words, the plot of all episodes (is figured out).

The first and second are written. The rest of them are in various stages of being written, but we know what the whole season is, and we will share it soon with Rhea. Sometimes the actors like Karolina and Samba, sometimes they don’t necessarily want to know. They kind of want to be surprised, which I kind of like that.”

Season 1 ends with Carol demanding the alien hive mind deliver an atom bomb in a crate, which they make good on. Carol tells Manousos, who like her is one of the few humans untouched by the alien virus, “You win. We save the world,” using the bomb as her insurance policy if the collective tries to force a conversion of them.

Gilligan and Seehorn both discussed how they adore fans’ theories on what the show is about, with the highest mentioned themes around Covid, AI, grief and isolation. Gilligan said that when it comes to AI and the pandemic being inspirations, “The idea (for this show) predated both those things.”

Gilligan added, “Someone said that it’s sort of a contemplation of loss. I think all these things are true. They all have validity. I really like hearing other people tell me what my show is about.”

Season 1 of Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV, and season 2 will arrive sometime in 2027. Stay tuned for updates.
