Vincent D’Onofrio Will Be Back as Kingpin in DAREDEVIL Season 3!

I don't know about you, but I've missed Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin. Fans will be happy to learn that he will be back in action in Marvel's Daredevil Season 3!

The last time we saw the character, he made a brief appearance in Daredevil Season 2. I'm sure he'll have a much bigger role this time around. Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb confirmed the news to Deadline and said:

"Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk. We’re very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner, Erik Oleson."

As far as this new showrunner goes, he has worked on series such as Man in High Castle and Arrow. He seems like a solid choice to lead Daredevil into the next chapter of his story. As for what that story will entail, Charlie Cox previously teased that it would be inspired by the "Born Again" story arc from the comics.

If you're not familiar with the "Born Again" story arc, it's one of the must-read Daredevil comics. Here's a rundown of the story's set up to get you started:

Karen Page, former lover and secretary of Matt Murdock/Daredevil and one of the few people to know his secret identity, had became a junkie porn star. On her need to get a shot of heroine, Page sells Daredevil´s secret I.D. unchaining a series of events that would drive Hell´s Kitchen vigilante near to insanity.
The indiscretion of Page soon reaches the Kingpin´s hands; who is more than eager to prove the information is true.
In a period of six month, Matt Murdock´s life becomes a living hell. His accounts are frozen by the IRS, the bank forecloses his home and even a police lieutenant, Nicholas Manolis, with a clean past, testifies against Murdock accusing him of buying witnesses. Also Murdock is barred from practicing law.
Murdock considers this to be just a strike of "bad luck", being unable to see his archenemies hand behind it. That is until the Kingpin went too far, bombing Murdock´s house. After this event, Murdock was convinced that it was his nemesis the responsible for this mayhem.
Unhinged and with poor mental health, Murdock has now become paranoid, and even suspects of his partner and best friend, Foggy Nelson and his former girlfriend, Glorianna O´Breen, of being part of the conspiracy against him and being allies to the Kingpin.
Ben Urich, a personal friend of Murdock and reporter for the Daily Bugle, investigates his friend´s situation, discovering the Kingpin´s involvement. The Kingpin finds this out and soon forces Urich into silence through violent actions. In a very poor condition and not finding any other way to solve his situation, Murdock faces the Kingpin and is easily taken down by the crime lord. Murdock is then drenched in whiskey and strapped into a taxi cab that is later pushed off a pier into the East River.

Cox explained that the series won't be a page for page retelling of this story, but it will use elements:

"I know we don't tend to follow any story blueprints too closely, because if you do, then you become a foregone conclusion. There may be elements from Born Again, but I'm sure there will be elements that are unfamiliar and surprising and different in order for the show to be compelling to fans who know the comics very well. If we start making Born Again page-for-page, then the people who have read it and loved it — the hardcore fans — they won't have too much drama."

I'm excited to see where Daredevil season 3 takes the character next, especially now that we know Wilson Fisk is officially coming back!
