VUDU Lets You Convert Your DVDs and Blu-Rays to Digital for a Small Fee

I have a big bookcase filled with DVDs and Blu-rays, and even then, it can’t hold all the ones I own. I imagine I’m not the only one with a large physical collection, but no where to store it. Well, maybe it’s time to make the move to digital and put the discs (except the most impressive and important ones) in storage. If you’re like me, that sounds great except you don’t want to repurchase your entire collection. VUDU may be able to help with that.

I don’t know how long VUDU has offered these services, but they have a system where you pay $2-5, do a couple steps, and you now have a digital copy of that film. I came across this the other day and my mind has exploded. I’ve been thinking a similar service for converting VHS tapes to a more modern format would be incredible and then I come across this. This is a brilliant idea that people should seriously consider.

Here’s how the costs are broken down. If you own the DVD, you can pay $2 to get a Standard Definition copy of the digital film, or you can pay $5 to get the HDX version. If you own the Blu-ray, you pay $2 for the HDX copy.

It does look like not all movies are supported (including Disney films), but VUDU has a nifty tool on their page to let you search and make sure the film you have is eligible for the Disc-to-Digital conversion.
